Topic: Sensitisation on Reading and Understanding Nutrition Facts for School Foods and Drinks

Description: A sensitisation session designed for principals and cafeteria concessionaires to build capacity in interpreting nutrition labels and ensuring alignment with the Ministry of Education’s Stronger Nutrition Standards. The session will cover practical skills for identifying healthier food and beverage options, reducing the sale of high-sugar, high-sodium, and high-fat items, and protecting students’ health and learning outcomes.

Objectives: Equip school leaders and vendors with skills to interpret Nutrition Facts labels; Identify foods and beverages that comply with national school nutrition standards; Recognize restricted ingredients such as excess sugars, sodium, fats, caffeine, and artificial sweeteners; Strengthen monitoring and compliance practices within schools.

Target Audience:  Principals, Cafeteria Concessionaires, School Vendors

Specific Instructions: Participants are encouraged to bring sample packaged foods and beverages currently sold in their schools for label-reading exercises. Training will include interactive activities, sample checklists, and copies of the Circular on Stronger Nutrition Standards.
