WORKSHOP TOPICS
Day 1 – Crop Production
• Plant Propagation
• Sustainable soil management
• Organic and inorganic fertilizers
• Integrated pest management
• Water conservation techniques
• Integrated thematic teaching using the school garden (Primary), Link to CSEC SBA practical skills (Secondary)
Day 2 – Agro-processing & Entrepreneurship
• Food preservation methods (drying, pickling, bottling)
• Packaging and labelling
• Business planning and marketing strategies
• ICT tools for product promotion
Objectives:
• To encourage food production at school and home – Growing kitchen gardens to expose students and parents to the principles of crop production, reconnecting communities with agriculture to promote food security. (SDG 2 – Zero Hunger)
• To promote innovation in agriculture – Designing creative products and solutions such as natural fertilizers, pest control options, composting methods, and water-saving systems. (SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)
• To build entrepreneurial capacity – Training in branding, packaging, marketing, and financial literacy for value-added products. (SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth)
• To promote agro-processing – Teaching safe food preservation and product development techniques to extend shelf life and create marketable goods. (SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production)
• To integrate technology – Using ICT to create promotional portfolios for products and document production processes.
• To develop technical and vocational skills – Providing TVET-aligned training in crop production and agro-processing for teachers, students, and parents, reinforcing literacy and numeracy through practical applications.
• To strengthen community engagement – Encouraging school-home collaboration by training parents alongside teachers.
• To commemorate World Food Day: Observed on October 16th annually.
