Description: This workshop is designed to equip parents and caregivers with practical knowledge and strategies to support young children through separation, divorce, changes in caregivers, relocation, and other family transitions. Participants will explore effective ways to communicate with children about difficult changes, respond appropriately to emotional and behavioural reactions, maintain consistent routines, and foster a sense of safety, stability, and emotional connection. The workshop will also emphasise strategies for reducing family conflict and minimising its potential impact on children’s emotional well-being, adjustment, and learning.

Objective:

1. Explore healthy co-parenting and communication strategies where appropriate.

2. Identify ways to reduce children’s exposure to parental conflict.

3. Strengthen parents’ ability to respond calmly and compassionately to children’s difficult emotions.
4. Develop practical strategies for helping children build resilience during periods of change.
5. Understand how separation and family changes can affect young children emotionally and behaviourally.
6. Identify common signs of stress, anxiety, sadness, confusion, or insecurity in children.
7. Learn age-appropriate ways to explain family changes to young children.
8. Develop strategies for maintaining consistency, routines, and emotional security.
