Topic: School-Based Assessment (SBA)Workshop for Newly Appointed Teachers of CSEC Chemistry

Description: To support the effective implementation of School-Based Assessment (SBA) for CSEC® Chemistry, the Curriculum Planning and Development Division has developed a one-day workshop (two cohorts, one per day). Feedback from the 2025 SBA moderation cycle, from Heads of Department and teachers, has highlighted the need for targeted support to strengthen SBA practices. This workshop is designed to enhance teachers’ understanding and application of SBA requirements while addressing identified challenges. Participants will engage in collaborative activities aimed at critically examining existing approaches and reflecting on areas for ongoing professional improvement.

Objectives: 

1. Outline key areas in the syllabus for the delivery and implementation of the SBA and their implications for student learning and performance.
2. Identify documents required to prepare for CSEC® moderation of the School-Based Assessment (SBA) in Chemistry.
3. Evaluate different types of feedback and their implications for promoting scientific skill development
4. Examine criteria for observation, recording and reporting, measurement and manipulation, analysis and interpretation skills and planning and design.

Target Audience: Secondary school teachers of CSEC Chemistry with 4 years and less experience teaching CSEC Chemistry

Mode of Delivery: Face to Face 

Specific Instructions: Participants are asked to bring or have access to the CSEC Chemistry syllabus and relevant SBA records. Lunch and snacks will be the responsibility of participants.
